My current project captures the nostalgia I feel for my childhood through a series of paintings. I have drawn inspiration from my memories, old photographs, drawings I doodled when I was a toddler, conversations with my family and familiar patterns found in places like my mothers clothes and sentimental objects. With these precious sources I combine interesting compositions filled with memories and colour. My childhood feels like a distant memory, some parts faded; unrendered, some parts vivid, just like my paintings.

My zine entitled “Women in Motion” (2024) features a series of black and white illustrations depicting nude women engaged in everyday activities such as playing chess, doing yoga, drinking tea, creating music etc. As the female form is so highly sexualised it was essential to me that these characters are seen for their interests and hobbies despite being naked. In this sense, their body is the least interesting thing about them. Social media is becoming more toxic every day. Young girls are targeted specifically and are exposed to so much online that they begin to compare themselves to others, and question whether their body is ‘normal’. Through these illustrations I hope to create a safe space for the female form, in every form. It is always ‘normal’. We are all different and it is important to pursue our interests and embody our individuality.
